Location: Linglestown Life United Methodist Church, 1430 North Mountain Road,Linglestown, PA.
(From I-81 go north on Mountain Rd. At the traffic round-about continue north on Mountain Rd. It ends in the church parking lot.)
Do you like fossils, minerals, crystals, and unusual rocks?
At the rocks for kids event, students in grades 1-8 go to a series of stations where they collect rock specimens and learn about a variety of topics, including:
- Pennsylvania minerals and rocks,
- Fossils
- Optical properties of Minerals
- Cleavage of crystals
- Fluorescence (glow in the dark)
- Sales table for children with affordable prices
- And more!
There will be demonstrations, games and interesting facts about rocks and minerals. Everyone goes at their own pace to each station in the order they choose.
Participation is limited to a first come first served basis so please sign up early! Advanced payment of $5.00 for each child will guarantee your reserved spot for the special rocks for kids event. Registration is limited so that we may be sure of having enough specimens for all of the students.
Rocks4Kids Day is fun and rewarding for students in grades 1-8 and their parents. Only the student pays to register. They will learn about minerals, crystals, and fossils at a series of stations and the student will receive samples to begin their own rock collection. It will take about two hours to complete the stations. Sign up for your preferred start time so that we can spread the crowd out through the day.
